AI search, in plain terms
7 questionsWhat is AI search optimization?
It is the work of getting your brand named inside the answers AI assistants write. People also call it GEO, for Generative Engine Optimization. The goal is different from SEO: SEO wins you a place in a list of links, this wins you a mention in the answer, which is often all the reader ever sees.
How is AI search optimization different from SEO?
SEO earns a ranking. AI search optimization earns a mention. The signals overlap but they are not the same. Rankings reward backlinks and relevance. Assistants reward structured data, clear answers they can lift, and sources they can check. The two are linked, because most assistants search the web before they write, so a page nothing ranks for is a page no assistant finds. You need both.
Do AI assistants care about keywords?
Not for ranking, but yes for finding you. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews all turn a question into a search first, read what comes back, then write. No amount of keyword density changes the answer. What counts is showing up for the searches an assistant actually runs, which is why tracking your rankings and your mentions together tells you more than either on its own.
Why is my website invisible to ChatGPT?
Usually one of three things. Nothing of yours ranks for the searches it runs before answering. Or your pages carry no structured data, so it cannot pin down facts about you. Or your content never answers the question plainly enough to quote. These are three separate problems with three separate fixes, so it pays to find out which one you have before you change anything.
My website ranks on Google but AI assistants do not mention it. Why?
Ranking and being quoted are two different tests. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude build answers from pages they can read and lift a clean line out of, and a lot of first-place pages fail that. Google AI Overviews is the odd one out, because it leans on ordinary rankings, so you can be named there and nowhere else. The console reports both halves for every question: whether you were on the page the assistant read, and whether it used you anyway.
How do I get my website recommended by AI search engines?
Make each page easy to read, easy to check and easy to quote. That means JSON-LD describing what you are, a plain answer in the first sentence under each heading, real published and updated dates, and open access for GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended. Then measure it across engines. Assistants often disagree, so seeing which ones already name you is what shows you where the quickest wins are.
Does structured data actually help with AI search?
Yes, because it removes the guesswork. JSON-LD states your prices, products and answers as facts a machine can read, instead of leaving a model to work them out from your prose. A model that can confirm something is far more willing to repeat it. It is not a trick and it will not save a page with nothing to say. But on a page that answers a real question, it decides whether you get read or get quoted.
Product, in practice
8 questionsWhat is Greater Than Services?
It is a tool for finding out what AI assistants say about your brand, and fixing what they say. You set up a workspace for your brand. Every week it asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini the buyer questions from your category, and records who got named. It also tracks your Google position and re-reads the pages you pick. Every gap comes back with the change to make, and the code to make it where code is the answer.
Does Greater Than Services track Google rankings too?
Yes. Every workspace checks your Google position for the keywords you choose, weekly, next to the AI results. Growth and Agency can also connect Search Console, so real clicks and impressions sit alongside. Most AI answers are still built from pages that rank, so the two readings are more useful together than apart.
How do I know if ChatGPT recommends my brand?
Ask it what your buyers ask, read what comes back, and do it on a schedule. That is what this does. Every week it puts your tracked questions to ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, and records who each answer named, who it linked to, and which rivals came up instead. The full answer is kept as evidence. One reading tells you where you stand. A run of them tells you whether your changes worked.
Which AI engines does Greater Than Services track?
Five: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. Starter covers ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Growth and Agency cover all five. Google AI Overviews is read off the live results page, not from a model, so you see what a searcher in your country would see.
What do I actually get each week?
A fresh reading of every tracked question on the engines your plan covers. A visibility score with the change since last week. A ranked list of what to fix, with the code where code applies. Your Google position for the searches you track. And an email telling you what moved. Nothing is hidden: every score links back to the answer it came from.
Do you tell me what to fix, or just what is wrong?
Both, and the fix comes with the finding. Recommendations arrive with the JSON-LD, meta tags or HTML ready to paste, and the page they belong on. You mark one as done, and the next run shows you what it did. That loop is the point: you find out which changes actually earn you mentions, and do more of those.
Can I track competitors?
Yes. You name them at setup, and every weekly run scores you against them: how often each gets named on your questions, which sources feed them, and where they beat you on Google. Growth and Agency also put your backlink profiles side by side, so you can see who is building authority faster and from where.
Does it work for languages other than English?
It covers 38 markets, including India, Germany, Brazil, the UAE and Indonesia, and asks each market's own Google, so the results you get are local even when the question is in English. The questions and answers themselves run in English today. Plenty of brands track their category in English while selling in another language and get what they need from it. If you would rather the questions were asked in your buyers' language, get in touch and tell us which one, because the market data already supports it.
Data and accuracy
4 questionsHow accurate is the AI visibility score?
It is a count, not an estimate. The score is the share of engine answers that named your brand across the questions you track, and every point traces back to an answer you can open and read. Two things are left out on purpose. Questions containing your own brand name, because any assistant answers those with you. And engine slots that produced no answer at all, so a Google search with no AI Overview is never counted against you.
How often is the data refreshed?
Every tracked question is asked again once a week. Search Console figures refresh daily once connected. Every plan also gets on-demand refreshes, for when you have just shipped a fix and do not want to wait for Monday: two a month on Starter, up to thirty on Agency.
Do you use real AI engines or a simulation?
Real engines, every time. Questions go to the live APIs for ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini with web search on. Google AI Overviews is read from a real results page for your country. Nothing is modelled or sampled from a panel. That is how the report can show you the exact words an assistant used.
Why does my score change when I have not changed anything?
Because the engines change even when you do not. Models get updated. The pages they pull from move in the rankings. A question that showed an AI Overview last week might not show one this week. That movement is real, not noise. So the product keeps every answer and lets you pin the day you shipped something to the chart, and when the line moves you can see what came before it.
Plans and billing
5 questionsHow much does Greater Than Services cost?
Three plans, billed yearly: Starter at $49 a month for one brand and two engines, Growth at $99 for three brands and all five engines, and Agency at $299 for ten brands. Paying monthly costs 20 percent more. Every plan includes the weekly run, the fixes, rank tracking and the weekly email.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Three days on a real workspace: one brand, five tracked questions on ChatGPT and an on-demand refresh, running against the live engines so the numbers you see are genuinely yours. Your first reading arrives within a minute of setup. You add a card to start it and can cancel from the console at any point during the trial without being charged. If you would rather look around first, the preview is a full workspace ten weeks in and needs nothing from you.
What is the difference between the plans?
Three things change: how many brands you can track, which engines get asked, and how much of each feature you can use. Starter is one brand on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Growth adds Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, three brands, Search Console, backlink tracking and the full competitor matrix. Agency takes it to ten brands and adds white-label reports, API and MCP access, and the biggest allowances.
Can I change plan later?
Yes, and an upgrade reaches the workspaces you already have. Move from Starter to Growth and your existing brand starts getting asked on all five engines from its next run, keeping every week of history it has built so far.
Do you offer white-label reports for agencies?
Yes, on Agency. Exported reports carry your name, logo and colours, with no mention of us. Agency also includes API access and an MCP server, so you can pull the numbers into your own reporting, or straight into Claude or Cursor.
Getting started
4 questionsHow long does setup take?
About five minutes, and your first reading lands at the end of it. You give your domain and country, keep or edit the questions we suggest, name the competitors you care about, and the first run happens while you watch. Nothing is queued for later.
Do I need to install anything on my website?
No. No script, no plugin, no access to your site. Everything is measured from outside, the same way an assistant sees you. Connecting Search Console is optional and read-only, and it adds your true average position and click data next to the AI numbers.
What questions should I track?
The ones a buyer asks before they know your name. "Best CRM for small teams" is worth tracking. "What does Acme do" is not, because every assistant answers that with you. Setup suggests a starting set from your site and category, and the console shows you the questions Google puts next to yours, so the list gets better as you go.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not cut you off on the spot. You keep access for the period you have paid for, and your history stays where it is in case you come back.
